The Right Time to Fold by Happymeal

I’ve been revisiting my social sites.. and it’s been 3 years since this “Happymeal” updated his site.. And he was one of the few people I followed in myspace..

I got hooked on his writing..

Here’s one that I love..

THE RIGHT TIME TO FOLD

I don’t gamble.

I’m probably the lousiest when it comes to gambling. I’ll bet fifty bucks on something dumb. But for me to actually be at a table and bet on craps, blackjack or poker? I don’t think so. I think the only card game i’m pretty damn good at is unggoy-ungguyan. You know the card game where you hide one card and pair up the rest by picking off each other, and the last person who has the last unpaired card is the monkey? Haha. Oh well.

The only other thing i will significantly bet on is LOVE. Love is a lot like gambling, except your’e playing for something that cannot be as easily earned back as you can with money. You are playing tossing your heart right there on the table, on top of the chips. You bet big. You win big. But it also follows that if you bet big, you can lose big.

I’m a pretty seasoned gambler in the game of love. I’ve won little and won big, and also lost little and lost big. So i know how it all goes. There are never any guarantees; you walk into everything knowing more or less what to expect. As in any game, there are only two possible outcomes anyway: winning and losing. And you walk into a game knowing you can lose and lose BIG, if you are the type of person who can put everything on the line. So you have to know when it is time to walk away from a bad table and a lousy hand. Stay in the game too long and your losses will hurt you too deeply. You might not just recover in time for another shot at winning. When the odds are stacked against you, you have to know when it is the right time to fold. Fold too early and you might just miss out on someone amazing. Fold at the right time and you just might escape with minimal trauma and live to see another fight–bruised, scratched and beat up better than a bloody freaking mess of internal hemorrhaging and violent emotions rolled into one.

There is always hope.

The hope that you beat the odds, because the prize is too great to be ignored, too precious to resist, too wonderful too pass up. The hope that when you sit at the table, you’ll be dealt with a better hand.
